Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created a comical animal character they called Minnie Mouse. Mickey Mouse and she were drawn by Ub Iwerks in 1928. The funny strip story “Mr. Slicker and the Egg Robbers” (printed September 22–December 26, 1930) presented her father Marcus Mouse and her nameless mother, both farmers. The same story presented photographs of Minnie’s uncle Milton Mouse with his family and her grandparents Marshal Mouse and Matilda Mouse. In many appearances, Minnie is presented as the girlfriend of Mickey Mouse, a close friend of Daisy Duck, and a friend to Clarabelle Cow. On January 22, 2018, she joined the lines of other animated celebrities (including Mickey Mouse) by getting her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Minnie was planned in the fashion of a “flapper” girl. Her main outfit contained of a short flapper girl dress that often exposed her typical covered knickers. In the 1929 cartoon The Karnival Kid, it was also exposed that she wears black stockings which were also stylish among flapper girls. Her shoes are perhaps her most unique thing of clothing. For comedic effect, she wears huge high heeled pumps that are too big for her feet. Her heels often slip out of her shoes, and she even loses her shoes totally in The Gallopin’ Gaucho. Minnie almost always wears red or pink, but in her early appearances, she could be seen wearing a combination of blue, black or green. Minnie’s early character is cute, playful, musical and teasing. She often describes an entertainer like a dancer or a musician that Mickey is trying to win the affection of. Portion of the comedy of these early shorts is the changing point of success Mickey has in wooing Minnie. Contrasting later cartoons after the redesign, Minnie usually becomes a damsel in distress that Mickey tries to rescue. She is also subject to a lot of joke and rubber hose cartoon gags. Over the course of the thirties, Minnie’s and Mickey’s relationship solidified and they eventually became a steady couple.
