The characters of the movie are Lightning McQueen (main character), which is described by John Lasseter as a mixture between a stock car and a more curvy Le Mans endurance racer, Doc Hudson a 1951 Hudson Hornet who is later out to be the Great Hudson Hornet, Sally Carrera a 2002 996-series Porsche, Mater a 1951 International Harvester boom truck with elements of a mid–1950s Chevrolet, Luigi a 1959 Fiat500, Ramone a 1959 Chevrolet Impala lowrider, Sheriff a 1949 Mercury club coupe, Filmore a 1960 VW bus, Sarge a 1941 Willys Model Jeep in the style used by Us Military, Flo a 1957 Motorama show car, and Guido a custom forklift similar to an Isetta at the front. Some of the characters of the movies are Strip “the King” Weathers, Chick Hicks described by Pixar as a common 1980s stock car, Lizzie a 1923 ford model, Mack a 1985 Mack Super Liner, Red a 1960 style fire truck and Harv, Lightning McQuuens agent but never seen on screen. Cars was the final Pixar film worked on by Joe Ranft who died in a car accident a year before the film released at the age of 45. The film was the second to be dedicated to his memory. This movie turned out to be the highest earning of his career.
