Today, October 20, 2014 (Monday), is a very shocking & sad day for the Decorations Industry. Daniel Cañete Jr., 44, more commonly known as Jun Cañete, is stabbed brutally inside his Flower Shop in Barangay Zapatera.
Used to be a dealer of flowers in Freedom Park, Jun Cañete is now an owner of a relatively large flower shop in Sikatuna St, Cebu City. Because of his ever-growing customer base, he decided to open a Flower Shop, so he can entertain his clients inside a better-looking shop. Caters mostly to weddings, corporate events, birthday parties & christening, Jun Cañete is one of the best flower artist not only in Cebu but the entire Philippines – comparable to (or probably better than) Ritz Flowers & Simple Wishes Flower Shop. His talent in flower arrangement, color combination, artistic decoration and the likes brought him to the top. He has made a name in the “Events Suppliers” industry because of this humility, great work & attitude towards work and personal life. His clients are willing to pay for his professional service simply because they want a memorable event.
Found dead by his female employee who reported for work at his flower shop at around 7am today, Florist Jun Canete was viciously stabbed. In a Facebook Post by his friend who is a known wedding coordinator in Cebu, there were fatal wounds and his items were stolen.
“more than 39 stabbed wounds, 4 of which were fatal; bruises and cuts…. jun was brutally murdered after wiping out all his hard-earned money, 3 phones, 2 laptops, ipad- that’s the truth! Please pray for justice! if you saw him yesterday with someone, let the authorities know!”
In a video report by ABS-CBN Cebu this afternoon, the suspect is an acquaintance of Jun, who goes in and out of his flower store. According to the Police Report, he was killed at dawn and the money he got from his client last Saturday was stolen. It was estimated around P50,000.
In another report made by Cebu Daily News, the killer robbed him P250K, instead of the P50K reported by ABS-CBN. Canete has no known enemies and the authorities are looking into theft as a main angle of the murder.
In an Inquirer.net report, police said Cañete may have fought with his attacker as shown by the stab wounds found on his hands, body and legs. Drawers inside his leased flower shop space were already opened but police said there were no signs of forced entry. Cañete lived in Tagonol in Talisay City, about 12 kilometers south of Cebu City but would often sleep in his flower shop. His eight employees, mostly floral arrangers and errand boys, last saw him alive when they left work on Saturday. Police are looking at robbery as a motive of the crime and may also invite Cañete’s teenage boyfriend for questioning.
Notably, Jun posted this image below in his FB account. There may be something behind this post.
In Jun Cañete’s Official Facebook Account, his relatives, friends and customers are showing their support. Some are even changing their profile pictures where there is a flower arrangement made by the prolific florist.
Maranga Cebu Balloons & Party Supplies does not personally know Mr. Daniel “Jun” Canete Jr. but since they belong to the same industry, they sometimes cater to the same event. During the wedding of Mark’s sister, Jun Cañete was the florist. It was one memorable event because of the nicely done flower decors at the church & at Chateau de Busay. The bouquet he made for Mark’s sister & the bridesmaids were perfect. He is one of the persons this balloon shop idolizes. The way he combines colors & the way he meticulously make his flower decors is just amazing. Jun is definitely one person who made the industry better. His work of art will always be remembered.
Rest in Peace Sir Jun! We will pray for your soul and that justice may prevail.
