Thomas the Train and Friends
Thomas the Tank Engine is an imaginary steam engine in The Railway Series books by the Respected Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher. Thomas turn out to be the most popular character in the run, and is the label character in the associated TV bonus series Thomas & Friends. Thomas is a steam engine and with a number 1 highlighted on his sideways. All of the trains in The Railway Series were made on classical machines. Thomas has backgrounds in the E2 Class designed by Lawson Billinton in 1913. In 1946, Thomas first appeared in the second book in the sequence, Thomas the Tank Engine, and was the emphasis of the four short stories enclosed inside. Percy and Toby were Thomas’s best friends in the film. In 1979, British writer/producer Britt Allcroft came through the books and agreed a deal to take the stories to life as the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (later shortened to Thomas & Friends). The programme turn out to be an award-winning success around the world, with a huge range of extra profitable products.
While Awdry made Thomas, the machine happened only as a wooden toy made for his son Christopher. The engine looked rather unalike from the character in the books and television sequence, and has the letters NW on its side chambers. Awdry said that this stood for “No Where”, As the Railway Series and its backstory advanced, yet, the railway that Thomas and his friends functioned on became known as the North Western Railway. The Steam Team was presented in season 8. This is the name given to the main group of characters on the North Western Railway as introduced in later seasons: Thomas, Gordon, James, Percy, Emily, Nia and Rebecca. There is no such consistent group in The Railway Series books though a similar group appears in the book The Eight Famous Engines.
