Beauty and the Beast





In 1991, Walt Disney Pictures released an American Animated Musical romantic fantasy titled Beauty and the Beast, and was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Beauty and the Beast centers on the relationship between the Beast, a prince who is mysteriously transformed into a monster and his servants into home objects as punishment for his superiority, and Belle, a young woman whom he detains in his castle to become a prince again. To break the spell, Beast must learn to love Belle and earn her love in return before the last petal falls from an bewitched rose or else the Beast will remain a monster forever. Walt Disney first tried unsuccessfully to adapt Beauty and the Beast into an animated film during the 1930s and 1950s. Beauty and the Beast premiered as an incomplete film at the New York Film Festival on September 29, 1991, followed by its stage release as a completed movie at the El Capitan Theatre on November 13. The movie earned $425 million at the box office worldwide on a $25 million budget. Beauty and the Beast won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, the first animated film to ever win that category. Get to know the main characters of the movie.

Belle is a young woman who loves and frequently reads books who seeks adventures and offers her own freedom to the Beast in return for her father’s.

Beast is a young prince who is transformed into a beast by a witch as punishment for his superiority. The animators illustrated him with the head structure and horns of an American bison, the arms and body of a bear, the ears of a deer, the eyebrows of a gorilla, the jaws, teeth, and mane of a lion, the tusks of a wild boar, and the legs and tail of a wolf.

Gaston is unproductive hunters who competes for Belle’s hand in marriage and is firm not to let anyone else win her heart. He serves as a foil character to the Beast, who was once as arrogant as Gaston prior to his transformation.

Lumière is the kind-hearted but stubborn clean of the Beast’s, who has been transformed into a candlestick.

Cogsworth is the Majordomo, the head of the household staff and Lumière’s best friend, who has been transformed into a clock.

Mrs. Potts is the castle cook, turned into a teapot, who takes a maternal attitude toward Belle.

Chip is Mrs. Potts’ son, who has been turned into a teacup.
