Outdoor Birthdays & other events this Rainy Season

The Wet Season in the Philippines is finally here. During this period, the country will experience heavy and frequent rainfalls. This is the time that outdoor events such as birthdays, weddings, debut, christening and other social events should be under a roof. Celebrating social gatherings outdoor may mean a destruction if ever the rain comes during the time of the event. Even under a roof but with open air (less or no walls, such as gymnasiums) can cause problems to the celebration if the wind and the rain are strong enough to get inside the function area.

Parents who are planning to celebrate their child’s birthday outdoors must make precautionary measures and alternatives to make the event successful. They can rent a tent to cover the guests who does not want to get wet. Kids who love to get wet if ever it rains during the event must bring their extra pants and shirts.

Unlike summer, which is generally dry and hot, the rainy season is the time when flying balloons must not be exposed to water droppings. When surrounded by water, the flying balloons will drop to the ground, until it becomes dry again. For other balloon decorations, such as balloon pillars, cake arch, stick balloons and entrance arch, getting wet is not a problem. Some balloon sculptures may be problematic if it is hit by water.

During the summer season, printed balloons or inked balloons are discouraged to be exposed in direct sunlight because the heat of the sun or the ultraviolet rays can easily burst the balloons. This wet season, exposing the balloons to direct sunlight remains a problem but most of the time it is cloudy so balloons with print will be okay, in most times.

The Philippines has a tropical climate and there are only two seasons – the Wet and Dry. Even during the Wet Season, the sun still comes out. In addition, the rain comes occasionally during the Dry Season.

Celebrating birthdays or any other events during the Rainy Season is very challenging especially if your guests are dressed for a formal event. Unless it is a pool party, where guests are informed ahead of time to bring towels and extra clothing, you have to be prepared for a plan B. An alternate plan may also not work very well because it will take a lot of time transferring the buffet, desserts, decorations and other stuffs to a safe place. There are times when you think it will not rain and then 10 minutes after, it will rain. Sometimes, it will rain cats and dogs.
