Deciding to hold your party outdoors may be nice but make sure you consider some of the things we wrote here. Having an outdoor party is not only classic but it gives the kids a chance to be more intimate with nature, especially that they are more attached to screens these days and they have less time to play outside their houses.
We’ve already written about this topic in our 5 helpful tips for decorating a venue but we want to expound on it. Decorating an outdoor party venue with balloons is time consuming. Considering that the venue has as open space, the wind will easily blow the balloons away. Even if there is a tent or a roof that can cover the balloons from the heat of the sun, the wind will surely become the big problem during the decoration. Even flowers, buntings and other lightweight stuffs will easily fly because of the wind. There are times of the day when the wind is not that strong and the balloon sticks can continue to hold the balloons and do not break but there are moments when the wind is too strong for the balloon stick to handle. Flying balloons are good options when decorating an outdoor party venue because the string will just follow the will of the wind but make sure it is away from open flames or sharp objects or pointed twigs of bushes to avoid bursting it.
The heat of the sun is also a big problem during outdoor events. Aside from the pointed objects, the balloons will burst when exposed to direct sunlight. The latex balloons cannot handle the extreme heat, especially here in the Philippines where the heat is at 30-35 degrees during lunchtime and 28-34 degrees in the afternoon, when you start to decorate for a late afternoon party. Humidity is also a problem for balloons because the texture of the latex will start to decompose making it dull. If the party is not in an enclosed space and there is high humidity, there is also a chance the balloons will burst. The atoms inside the balloons will expand in humid areas (and it will contract in cold rooms).
Having a balloon column or entrance arch for an outdoor party may be nice but stabilizing it is extremely challenging for beginners. Make sure you add a carton, used paper or cloth at the base to avoid any rough or pointed object from hitting the bottom balloons. Fix it to strong objects such as the metal stands of a tent or a nearby tree using a cotton thread or nylon just to make sure the wind will not blow it easily. Find ways also to keep the strings away from the passable areas so any kid or adult will not hit it.
Table centerpieces are also risky if not designed very well. See to it that the weights are strong enough to hold it. If the table is made of wood, you can use a combination of thumbtacks and string to fix the table centerpieces. You can also do this during late afternoons already because the centerpieces might be hit by direct sunlight.
In summary, do your best to be at the venue early so you can plan with your partners or teammates on what to do. Bring the right materials, such as tapes, screws, thumbtacks, threads, etc, to make sure you can fix all the decorations nice and easy. When celebrating outside, the heat and the wind are your biggest problems. So make sure you have a good plan to continue decorating the venue if they exist – anyway, they are natural and God’s gift to us.
