Why most birthday parties fall on a weekend

Most parents usually prepare for their child’s birthday celebration at least one month ahead. In fact, some parents even prepare 3 to 6 months in advance just to give the perfect party to their son or daughter, especially if it’s a 1st birthday event.

Some parents, who prepare 1 to 2 weeks ahead of their child’s birthday (which falls on a weekend), will be surprised to know that most of the suppliers – balloon decoration, entertainers, photobooth, lechon, cake, giveaways, etc – are already fully booked. This is because most birthday parties are celebrated on a weekend instead of a weekday.

Defined as a time period usually extending from Friday night through Sunday; (more loosely defined as any period of successive days including one and only one Sunday), weekends, more often than not, gets fully booked 1 to 2 months ahead for most businesses, especially those who are considered “trusted”. A number of parents simply transfer their son or daughter’s birthday party on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for several reasons. One of the main reasons why birthdays are held on a weekend is that it is more convenient for the celebrant, celebrant’s parents & relatives and the guests (including the kids), because there’s no work or school the following day. If it is held on a Sunday, the main reason is that it is a more relaxed day, allowing the guests to prepare ahead for Monday, giving them more time to enjoy during the party.

The truth is that most birthday parties don’t fall on a weekend. Most of them were moved to an earlier or later date to consider the convenience of the guests. Invited guests sometimes ignore birthdays held during weekdays because of work or school the following morning and they can’t enjoy very well while thinking of the homeworks or work load the following day. The sad thing is that most events are paid on a “per head basis”, which means the parents have already set a budget for that invited guest/s, who do not even mind of giving a confirmation of going to the event or not.

Many parents prefer the best suppliers for the balloon decors, party supplies, catering, dessert buffet, and many others. They usually book their preferred contractor at least 5 to 7 weeks ahead to avoid a “refusal” simply because that shop is already full of confirmed bookings for that day. Some of the more popular & affordable suppliers gets fully booked even on weekday events but still, unlike weekends, which gets jam-packed very early, weekday slots can possibly be open even in less than a week prior to the birthday.
